THE HISTORY, TOURISM & INDUSTRY

What Nakawa division lacks in history and tourism, it makes up for by being a leading commercial, industrial, recreational and educational services hub within the city. Nakawa division is known to host the Vatican Embassy in Kampala. A place famous for hosting the Pope’s during his holiness visits to Uganda. Uganda is ranked 2nd in Africa to have had the most visits by a Pope (John Paul II and Pope Francis) after our neighbours Kenya.

Nakawa division is also a commercial and economic powerhouse with light industries, office business parks, warehouses, industrial parks, and the countries revenue office, URA Towers.

For sports, recreation and education, Nakawa Division is where the country’s largest sports stadia, Nelson Mandela Stadium is located. It is also home to leading universities such as; Makerere Business School (MUBs), Kyambogo and Technology and Management University.

  • The Vatican Embassy, this is home to supreme pontiff of the worldwide catholic church. Mbuya Hill is where His Holiness the Pope, is hosted during his holy pilgrimage to Kampala. Mbuya Hill is also home to the Our Lady of Africa, Camboni Church.
  • URA Towers, this is the customs and revenue collection agency of Uganda. This agency collects (circa US$ 5 billion, 2019) annually in taxes and employs over 3,000 staff. The agency recently relocated into the newly built URA Towers, one of Kampala’s tallest buildings.
  • Nelson Mandela Stadium, this multi-purpose sports facility with a sitting capacity of 45,000 and is the largest stadium in Uganda. It is home to Football, Netball and Track & Field.
  • Star Times Stadium, this is home KCCA Football Club which was founded in 1963. KCCA is one of the most successful clubs in Uganda with nine (9) league titles and own eight (8) cup titles.
